Reel Muslim is a non-profit Islamic app for reviewed short content, prayer times and daily reminders. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it and what we do not do with it.

What we collect

• Account details — when you create an account, we collect your email address, display name and password. The password is stored only as a secure hash, never as readable text. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email, name and Google account ID, but never your Google password, contacts, calendar or files.
• Your activity — when signed in, we keep the reels you watch and for how long, your reactions, saves, shares and followed channels. This supports your personalised feed and public view counts. Tafsir questions and answers are also saved with your account so you can return to them.
• Ad views — when an ad is shown, we count the view. This helps calculate the ad revenue that supports people in need.
• Your location, if you allow it — the Prayer tab can use approximate or precise location, depending on your permission. Your phone uses it to calculate prayer times and Qibla, and sends the coordinates to our server once to find the nearest of 34,000 cities. We keep the city ID and name, not the coordinates. If you are signed in, your city and prayer settings are saved to your account so they can follow you to a new phone. If you choose a city manually, your location is not read.
• Technical basics — standard server logs, such as IP address, requested address and device type, used to deliver and protect the service.
• Notification token and preferences — if you allow notifications, Apple or Google gives your device a token. We store it with app language, time zone, app version and your reminder preferences so notifications arrive correctly. The token identifies the app installation, not you. Signing out detaches it from your account, and we delete it when Apple or Google reports that it no longer works.
• Prayer alerts calculated on your phone — adhan, prayer alerts, sunrise, adhkar, Jumu'ah and white-days reminders are scheduled on your device using locally calculated times. They do not pass through our servers.
• Widgets and watches — Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, StandBy and watch apps use a copy of prayer times and the daily reminder stored on your device. They do not send anything from your phone or collect data.
• Payments — none today. The app does not collect payments or store card or bank details. Project income currently comes from advertising. If direct support is added, this policy will be updated before it launches.
• Crash reports — when the app crashes, we receive the error, where it happened and your account's internal ID so we can measure its impact. We do not receive your email, name or the content you were watching.

You can browse without an account. When signed out, we keep no personal activity history about you.

What we never do

• We do not sell, rent or trade your data.
• We use no third-party ad networks or advertising trackers. Ads come from our own reviewed catalogue.
• We do not build a profile about you beyond what the in-app feed needs.

How we use your data

We use this data to run the app: personalise Explore, count views and reactions, review content, prevent abuse, calculate prayer settings for your city, deliver requested reminders and account for ad revenue that supports people in need. You can inspect the impact in the Impact tab.

Who processes data for us

We rely on infrastructure providers for video streaming and storage, file storage and delivery, and email services such as password resets. They process data only to provide these services to us and may not use it for their own purposes.

We use two Google services: Firebase Cloud Messaging for notifications and Firebase Crashlytics for the crash reports described above. Neither is used for advertising, and we do not use Google Analytics or an advertising SDK. If you sign in with Google, Google also knows that you signed in to Reel Muslim.

Tafsir questions are handled as described under Tafsir questions and AI below. Prayer-time city data comes from GeoNames and is served from our own servers; no external location service is called.

Tafsir questions and AI

Tafsir answers your questions about the Qur'an. When you ask one:

• What is sent. Our server sends the text of your question and the app language to an AI model provider, which writes a short explanation. We use Cerebras and OpenRouter, with Anthropic (Claude) as a backup.
• What is not sent. Your name, email address, account, device identifiers and location are never sent. The request comes from our server, not your phone, so the provider cannot tell who asked. Please do not include personal details in your questions.
• How providers handle it. We send questions to these providers only to produce your answer. They process them under their own terms, and may do so outside your country, including in the United States. With OpenRouter, our requests go only to models that do not collect or train on what we send.
• Where the sources come from. The Qur'an and tafsir text in answers comes from the Tafsir Center for Quranic Studies (tafsir.net), published under the CC BY 4.0 licence. The Tafsir Center receives only verse references and short search terms, never your identity.
• Your history. Your questions and answers are saved with your account so you can return to them. You can delete your Tafsir history at any time in the app (Tafsir → History → Delete history), and deleting your account deletes it too.

Retention and deletion

Detailed viewing signals are combined into aggregate statistics, and raw records are deleted on a rolling basis. Account data — including your city, prayer settings and Tafsir history — stays until you delete it or your account in the app, or contact us. Deleting your account removes your personal data from the service. Notification tokens are handled as described above. See Delete your account for steps.

Children

Reel Muslim's content is curated to be safe for all ages. Browsing does not require an account. Account creation requires accurate information, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, passwords are hashed and access to production data is restricted.

Reel Muslim is operated by Al-Halbouni Computer Programming, which is responsible for the data described in this policy.
